Description
2.0T FSI (EA113) engine is equipped with balancer shafts; two shafts that have weights strategically placed to cancel out the engine’s secondary order vibration when spun at 2 times the crankshaft speed.
The only component holding the balancer shafts to the crankshaft is a small dual-mass gear that shares a chain with the oil pump and is affixed to the crankshaft oil sprocket. Shearing of this gear and the bolt that holds it is not something uncommon on this platform.
We have decided to eliminate the dual-mass gear and replace it with a billet single-mass gear to reduce the chances of this specific failure. In addition to this, you will be required to remove the oil pump assembly and severe the internal connection between the balancer shafts.
